We were supposed to dance. Our lives aren't supposed to be just one track, we have been led to believe it is and at the end we will be rewarded with success and more and more people are realizing that. The system is so generalized and so flawed but we still just go with it. Don't go with the flow, don't be a mindless follower. Dance and sing your heart out whenever you feel like it, think for yourself, be yourself. Ferris Bueller said on his day off that "Life moves by pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around, you could miss it." And SO many people have missed it. It's sad, the system has failed us.
If working for an insurance company, pushing papers and being stuck in a rut for the rest of my life is success then I don't want to be successful. So many people get caught up in the lyrics they miss the beat; we don't hear the beat and then we forget to dance. That's the most important part, the beat, it's life. But hey... I'm just a hippy stuck in the wrong time period.
I feel as if in today’s world, we are not seen has cute little boys and girls We are the “children of tomorrow”. I’ve heard this so many times1 It’s like every single adult expects us to become successful at something we have to do our homework, get good grades, get an education, get a family , get money. I find this ridiculous it’s like we are just a bunch of robots filling places of past robots that have run on the same ‘treadmill” over and over again. Having the same routine every day. I get the feeling that we aren’t seen has people anymore. I’m just one more potential worker for a major company. Personally I find that I’ve been told what I want to do when I’m older. I’m not 100% sure on what I want to do, but I have to get into University, to get the sought out for education that you need to survive.
I feel as if no one stops just for a little and forgets everything. I get this feeling when I go to the cottage, or camping. It’ the best feeling in the world. No internet, no cell phones, but most importantly no distractions. Being on this continuous race to be successful, I feel like we can’t afford to do this anymore or we’ll get washed away/ left behind. In the “real world” as the parents say it’s much more competitive and I think people are scared to take a break and live a little. They are scared that at anytime they could be replaced.
This continuous race for success I believe is the biggest contributor to many addictions, mental problems, and deaths. When your constantly running in emergency mode, your mind and body pay the price.(1) People are in this emergency mode because of this brutal workforce. Some behavioral symptoms of stress included; using alcohol, cigarettes, and or drugs to relax, also eating more or less, nervous habits.(1) Thirty-five percent of U.S adults are obese(2), fifteen percent of U.S adults are alcoholics(3), and forty-five percent of U.S adults are regular cigarette smokers.(4) Cigarette smoking is the leading, most preventable death in the United States.(4) About one in every five deaths is due to smoking cigarettes.(4)
Now, I wonder why all these states are fairly high. The reason for this is because we do not know how to just step off out “treadmill” and take time to appreciate our world, relax stress-free with no worries at all. In today’s society no-body “dances” anymore. My dad would tell me all about how there would be a weekly dance for anyone in the community, monthly pot-lucks, community events. Nothing like this happens today because all we do is drive to work drive home and sleep. We have lost all sense of what the real world is like, what it’s like to have good friends. Personally, when I was younger my family would have a christmas sleigh ride for family and friends, but it doesn’t happen any more because people are too busy with work and stuff. It’s just sad to see this happen even in my own life at such a young age.
