Syria

Mortar shells 13 children. How did it come to this? What leads to these sorts of situations that we never deal with as Canadians? Has Syria always known violence or was it once peaceful? http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/mortar-fire-syria-school-kills-13-children-26704083

  1. Weekly post...

For a Canadian or for any person from a first world/developed country this is unheard of for such a tragedy to happen here but in reality this is an unfortunate tragedy that Middle east countries face. The civil war in Syria has been going on for 4 years now and has been through multiple attacks similar to tho this. In October at least 25 children were victims to a suicide bombing. Again another thing that we from developed countries cannot understand the feel for.

First reports of the incident are pointing fingers at the government forces for responsibility. Although its unclear that it was the government side, its reported to be them as why would the rebels fire at their own. these tragedies happen due to the lack of organization in the country. Syria has been upside down for the past 4 years with the uprising of the people and protests. Earlier this year Syria was ranked as the worlds "Least Peaceful Country" (1). While Canada was racked 7th, the 1st none european country on the list.

It's hard for Canadians to really have a feel and grasp of what it is really like because we do not experience anything close to the extent of what people living in the middle east do daily. The uprising and protests against the Unitary state/Semi-presidential system that is in place and as well as the current threat of ISIS. There is much of a cause for these unfortunate events. Bombing is the most effective way to cause mass destruction and as bad as it is its most common used to make the most damage. There is no care for who gets killed.

For one to take a look at many parts of Syria, it will look like an image straight out of a war video game (2). Before and after pictures show nice built up areas completely pulverized. After looking into the timeline of Syria going back to 1918, it shows that Syria has faced majority of its time in some type of warfare. It has been through uprisings before and also conflicts with Lebanon and surrounding countries (3).
